Juxtaposition (Analogies)

Metaphor is the expression of an understanding of one concept in terms of another concept, where there is some similarity or correlation between the two. Unlike simile, metaphor not using the term like/ as.
For example : Your insincere apology just added fuel to the fire.

Simile is comparison of 2 unlike things using 'like' or 'as'.
For example : As white as snow

Juxtaposition

My Understanding ----->
Juxtaposition is an act of placing close together or side by side for comparison or contrast.
Juxtaposition ( literary ), synonymous with contrast, 2 objects or text that oppose 1 another.

Here is a picture that show juxtaposition:

The 2 penguins are juxtaposed in the water, capturing one from above and to side and the other from below and underneath giving a 360 degree view, clever?

View more about juxtaposition in photography : http://hubpages.com/hub/Understanding-Juxtaposition-in-photography

Random juxtaposition refers to the stimulation of creativity in problem solving, design or other
creative pursuit by confronting 2 unrelated concepts or objects usually the goal or problem to
be solved on the one hand and a randomly selected object or concept on the other.
Similar to an oxymoron.

Convergent and Divergent thinking, Logical Mindmap, Stereoptypes

This week Mr Yap teach about convergent and divergent thinking. What i understand is that convergent thinking is bring all idea together and set up a criteria which does not require creative. Divergent thinking is we can have many possible solution which is creative. While logical mind map is to arrange all the information that i get. Stereotype is held a group of people or someone by some characteristics.

This week our task is to create a creative mind map about myself:

creative mind map of myself

The mind map is about myself. I use tree because tree have many branches. The content is about myself, hobby, place i study and favourite food etc.

Here is a logical mind map that i search from the internet:

Logical mind map can visual out all the idea and make relationship and link between them. A mind map can help us to do work easier and easier to recognize. People always use stereotypes when doing mind map because stereotypes provide a quick identify for a group or a person that easily recognized by audience. So, we does not need to explain much and it make it easy to understand by people.

Novelty, Creativity, Innovation and Invention

Class Reflection
This week we learn about novelty, creativity, innovation and invention. I not really understand about what lecturer teach. So, i search the definition on the web.

Novelty is define as the quality of being new, fresh and interesting.
novelty keyboards keys

Creativity is ability to produce something new through imaginative skill, whether a new solution to a problem, a new method or device, or a new artistic object or form.

What is Creativity?
I define creativity as the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality. Creativity involves 2 processes : thinking, then producing. Innovation is the production or implementation of an idea. If you have ideas, but don't act on them, you are imaginative but not creative.
- By Linda Naiman

"Creativity is the proce
ss of bringing something new into being...creativity requires passion and commitment. Out of the creative act is born symbols and myths. It brings to our awareness what was previously hidden and points to new life. The experience is one of heightened consciousness-ecstasy." - Rollo May, The Courage to Create

A product is creative when it is (a) novel and (b) appropriate. A novel product is original not predictable. The bigger the concept, and the more the product stimulates further work and ideas, the more the product is creative."

- Sternberg & Lubart, Defying the Crowd

Innovation is process by which an idea or invention is translated into a good or service for which people will pay.

Invention
is a new device, method, or process developed from study and experimentation.
This Aspiral Clock is a very unique approach to showing the time of day, and dizzying at that. As time marches forward, this spiral clock slowly turns, appearing to advance a rolling ball until it reaches the 12 o’clock hour and begins all over again.

Defining Creativity

This week we learn about CREATIVITY. Lecturer talk about 9 myths out there about creativity and i found that it was interesting. Creativity is not something only needed by designers. It also needed in our daily life. Sometimes in our daily life, often without our awareness, we solve problems creatively. So, everyone can be creative~~
CrEative picture of my friend:
my friend is acting like a goldfish in different expression, happy, sleepy, shock....
CREATIVITY??
You cannot use up creativity. The more you use the more you have.
by Maya Angelou

For me, creativity is never being use up! Creativity is a process to think about new idea to solve problem in our daily life. To being creative, we need to think out of the
box and we will come out with crazy idea as long as we think.

An example of creative advertising :
